Caught Between Entertainment and Enlightenment

Unlike the Indian masters who brought yoga to America throughout the 20th century, the current generation of yoga teachers in America were born here and grew up conditioned by our culture's peculiar ideas about the body and the mind. As a 24-year-old student and teacher of yoga, I negotiate the space between the American pop culture that is native to me and the teachings of the yogic tradition. How should we in the current generation of yoga aspirants stand in relation to our cultural inheritance from growing up American?
